2020 Cal Cybersecurity Fellowship Awarded to Nathan Malkin, PhD Student

The Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity is pleased to announce that Nathan Malkin, a PhD student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is the 2020 recipient of the Cal Cybersecurity Fellowship, which was established following a gift from a Cal alum. The award will support to support Malkin’s research on privacy controls for “always-on” listening devices.

Privacy and the Internet of Things: Emerging Frameworks for Policy and Design

This report was published by the UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity in partnership with researchers from the Internet of Things Privacy Forum. The report provides an overview of some of the key privacy issues resulting from the expansion of the IoT, as well as emerging frameworks that could help policymakers and corporate leaders reduce potential harms through regulation and product design.

New CLTC Report Highlights Privacy Risks in the “Internet of Things”

Regulators and product makers need to do more to protect consumer data in the Internet of Things (IoT), as the rapid proliferation of web-connected devices is leading to the potentially irreversible erosion of our personal privacy. That is among the key findings of a new research report, Privacy and the Internet of Things: Emerging Frameworks for Policy and Design, published by the UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity in partnership with researchers from the Internet of Things Privacy Forum.
