Robust Access in Hostile Networks

Our research is about providing safe access to the Internet in places where network access is restricted or censored. Many people are limited in what they can say and do online because of restrictive filters that block websites. These filters also put people at risk of surveillance and infection by viruses and other forms of malware. We build and operate systems that circumvent network obstacles and enable people to access blocked websites safely. We do this by, for example, disguising visits to blocked websites so they appear to be something else to the network filters. We emphasize systems that are practical and deployable in the near term, and that will continue working even after they have become popular.
