Sponsorship Opportunity: DARPA’s AI Cyber Challenge

CLTC is thrilled to announce a $5,000 sponsorship opportunity for a team of UC Berkeley students (graduate and undergraduate levels) and postdoctoral scholars with interest in AI and cybersecurity to participate in DARPA’s AI Cyber Challenge (AIxCC).

AIxCC is calling on the brightest minds in AI and cybersecurity to defend the software on which all Americans rely. Competitors will leverage advances in AI to invent the next generation of cybersecurity defenses. Over the next two years, AIxCC will challenge teams to develop AI-driven systems to automatically secure the critical code that underpins daily life.

For comprehensive details regarding the competition, rules, registration requirements, prizes, timeline and more, please visit the official website.

CLTC is offering a $5,000 sponsorship to support one team to represent UC Berkeley in this prestigious competition. This award is made possible through CLTC’s Cal Cybersecurity Research fund.

To apply, teams must submit a proposal (outlined below) to CLTC detailing their concepts and planned research for their AIxCC registration paper. Preference will be given to proposals demonstrating a well-developed concept and prior work, although teams with fresh ideas are strongly encouraged to apply. Team members may consist of undergraduate students, graduate students, and/or postdoctoral scholars. Demonstration that the team has faculty supervision and/or a faculty advisory relationship is strongly encouraged. One team will receive CLTC’s sponsorship for participation in AIxCC. Sponsorship funds will be disbursed upon the team’s submission of their registration paper to AIxCC (DARPA’s registration deadline is April 30, 2024). Additional CLTC sponsorship is possible and will be considered based on the team’s progression in the competition and funding needs.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • All team members must have an UC Berkeley affiliation at the time of application
  • Teams may consist of UC Berkeley undergraduate students, graduate students, and/or postdoctoral scholars

Submission Requirements for Proposal:

  • Project proposal (5 pages maximum) including a project title, abstract, detailed concept, proposed research plan for the AIxCC registration paper, previous related work, research methods, and expected outcomes and impact.
