Application Security Engineering Intern

Fortinet is looking for an Application Security Engineer Intern to join our Corporate Information Security team. As an Intern, you will be paired with a mentor and have a hands-on opportunity to work on various Fortinet applications, by performing security assessments and working closely with development teams on identifying security issues in their infrastructure and recommending secure solutions.

Our internship program has a unique structure, goals, and is designed to help you expand your knowledge, develop new skills, and contribute to solving challenging yet exciting technical problems in security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and perform static and dynamic analysis of the Fortinet applications and help identify security vulnerabilities
  • Perform security code reviews, collaborating with development teams on identifying security issues in their infrastructure and finding solutions to provide required functionality securely
  • Help develop custom tools and exploits to support our security automation and penetration efforts
  • Proactively research vulnerability threats on the global space and that may affect Fortinet applications and infrastructure
  • Evaluate tools for further enhancement of our overall security defenses
  • Effectively work in a globally distributed team environment as well as autonomously


Minimum Education Level: Student

Required Skills/Experience

  • Currently enrolled in BS/MS degree program in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related STEM field
  • Candidates must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10–12 week period starting May or June 2022
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages, i.e., Python, Golang, C++, Java, PHP, or JavaScript
  • Understanding of common vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10)
  • Strong Security Engineering fundamentals in several of the following areas; application security, authentication & authorization, cryptography, and network security
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in working effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Experience in CTF or other security challenges is a plus
  • Contributions to the security community are a huge plus (research, blogging, presentations, bug bounty participation, etc.)
