The UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity is pleased to announce that Ann Cleaveland will serve as Executive Director, responsible for growing key partnerships, managing day-to-day operations, and stewarding a strategy to fulfill the mission of our multi-disciplinary research center.

“CLTC is excited to welcome Ann to this important leadership position in our group,” said Steven Weber, Faculty Director of CLTC. “Her keen strategic insight and deep experience working in a research-driven policy environment—where organizations are trying to build effective bridges between basic science and decision-making—will be critical in helping CLTC expand its scope and impact.”

Cleaveland is a senior leader and business manager who brings fifteen years of experience in philanthropy, non-profit management, and industry to CLTC. She was previously the Senior Director of Strategic Planning at the ClimateWorks Foundation, where she led multiple initiatives focused on supporting a large, philanthropic collaborative in a more strategic, effective, and science-based response to global climate change. She was also the architect of the Foundation’s learning and evaluation systems.

Prior to working at ClimateWorks, Cleaveland built programs and operations at several start-ups, including Lucid Energy Technologies and TCHO Ventures, a chocolate manufacturer. Earlier in her career, she directed Latin America operations at a global travel company, and she is fluent in Spanish. Ann received her B.A. from Rice University and her MBA in sustainable management from the Presidio Graduate School, where she also served as support faculty in economics.

“I am thrilled to be joining the CLTC and UC Berkeley to help scale and accelerate the Center’s important work in the cybersecurity field,” Cleaveland said.
